Shir Tikvah's History & General Information

Worship
Meaningful and authentic prayer services are central to the Shir Tikvah experience; for more comprehensive info on our Shabbat services, click here.

We have Shabbat services each week. Please check our calendar for service dates and times. You could also email us to join our weekly e-newsletter mailing list, which features detailed information about each Shabbat service.

Generally, we have a Saturday morning service at 10:30 am on the first Shabbat of each month. Friday night services are held at 6:30pm. There is one children's service, Tot Shabbat, each month (usually the first Saturday at 9:30 am) ideal for preschool and young elementary school-aged children.

Everyone is invited to attend all services, which means that our congregation celebrates together for all B'nei Mitzvah, baby namings, conversions, and other communal events. We try to make our programs and services accessible to all within the limits of our resources.

Shir Tikvah History
Shir Tikvah - Song of Hope - can trace its beginnings to a meeting of six people at a St. Paul restaurant in February 1988. This small group shared a common vision: A new synagogue in the spirit of liberal Judaism that would welcome and encourage the participation of individuals and families of varying Jewish lifestyles. They envisioned a synagogue that was personal, welcoming, and active in Torah study and social action. They wondered whether others in the community would be interested. Shir Tikvah moved into its current building in 1994 and now has a vibrant membership of more than 535 households.

Shir Tikvah is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, the national umbrella organization for Reform Congregations.
